This is a common term from the offline gambling industry, which originated and is most often used in American casinos. 

Description

Pit – part of the casino game room with several tables for certain games of chance.

Pete's work is in control of the pit boss (pit boss). He watches the actions of the croupier, watches the customers and performs other important duties. 

Usually, these are two rows of tables, at which the dealers stand with their backs to each other.
